Kokomo Church of the Brethren
2005 Prison Ministry Report
Sometimes we feel that this is as much of a learning experience for us as for the Prisoners while incarcerated and after their release. We were all raised in different backgrounds, so our views of life are different. We can all live in God’s love and grace, live a good life and be ourselves. For us this ministry has been hit and miss, but for the most part we have guided “Our Boys“ in a better way of life. Some times they have slid back a bit, but today they are on the right road to a God given life.
We only have two men that we visit in Prison as of now. Shannon is doing well. He will finish a two year associate degree in Religion this next spring. Shannon will then start a four year course. David works at the prison where he is housed for an outside company at a minimum wage. David pays his own room and board. Our conversation with both men reflect their love for God and those around them.
Jeff, Fred, Albert and Terry have been released from Prison and live a good trouble free lives. I feel their love for God in their actions, maybe not always as we would like, but as we have said, we all come from different backgrounds.
Jeff has a good job in Tipton he loves. He has a nice apartment in a nice neighborhood where he can have his two boys come and visit. He goes to church with his mother or a co-worker.
Fred works as a business partner with a friend and does odd jobs on the side. Fred lives alone and goes to church when he can and has the time.
Albert lives in Anderson away from old friends and family. He works at a job he likes and has a nice apartment. Albert is a member of a church in Anderson.
Terry was released from Prison this past August. Terry now lives with his mother and brother, with another brother near by in Lansing, MI. He has a landscaping job and works on cars part time. Terry tells me he has his mother going to church with him.
We are proud of “Our Boys’ and pray they continue to love God and pass his love on to others.
