NURTURE COMMISSION ANNUAL REPORT
November 2004-October 2005
The Nurture Commission appointed committees to plan and execute the Advent and Christmas programs: Deck the Halls; Christmas Family Night Carry-in meal and Children’s program; Caroling.
The Ash Wednesday Prayer Vigil was organized by Myrna Rule. We hosted a District CoB Lenten Service on March 13 – providing refreshments following the service. Palm branches were purchased for the children to carry into the sanctuary on Palm Sunday. The sanctuary was decorated with Easter lilies purchased by members of the congregation and placed up front in the sanctuary on the ‘cross’ platform. We had an egg hunt for the children on Easter morning following the breakfast that our Youth provided for us.
Ten of our members attended a Christian Education workshop in March at Manchester CoB.
Robin Hooker, Candace Good and Cheryl Little were in charge of Bible School, June 27-July 1.
Judy Denniston organized the children’s Sunday school classes using a ‘learning center’ concept.
Small potted flowers were given to each mother on Mother’s Day.
Gifts were given to our high school and college graduates on Graduate Recognition Sunday, June 5.
Little bags of candy were given to each father on Father’s Day.
The two classrooms at the west end of the downstairs hall were cleaned out, painted and decorated for Wee Worship and Junior Worship. We thank Rebecca Gentry for starting the Wee Worship group. She is currently being assisted by Candace Good. We thank Kristy Swisher for getting the Children’s Worship going and are sorry to see her leave. Judy Denniston will be coordinating the Junior Worship now.
Our Commission initiated a new topical Sunday school class. The timing was great as Karl Stone was thinking along the same lines. He is teaching the class as part of his Minister in Training (MIT) requirements. Included in his MIT is preaching one Sunday a month for nine months, being the worship on the Sundays when he is not preaching and leading choir.
Teachers for all the Sunday school classes have been secured, plus Sunday school secretary and assistant.
We organized a Church Picnic at Huston Park on August 28. It was combined with a farewell to Pastor Don and Mary.
We have planned a Pastor Appreciation Carry-in Meal October 23 following worship.
Currently, we are trying to start a Weekly Day of Prayer – 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. each Thursday. Twenty four half-hour time slots need to be filled by our members.
Thank you to all the Nurture Commission members for their time, energy and love for our church.
Sharon Fife, Nurture Commission Chairman
