Janet MeekJanet
Stackhouse was born August 8, 1970 in Monticello, IN. She grew up in
Logansport, about
a half block from McKinley Elementary School. When Janet was nine, her
family’s home burned down. It took about three years to build the new house
where her parents still live.
Janet attended the Logansport Church of the Brethren and became a member in 1985. She graduated from Logansport High School and began Architectural Drafting classes at Ivy Tech in 1988. Janet left college in 1990 to marry William Meek after he finished military tech school and went on active duty. She has since earned her CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) license, EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) license, and Paraprofessional Certification in education.
Janet and Bill lived in Guam for two years, spent six years in Colorado Springs, and two years in Mississippi. Jacob, now 16, was born in 1991. Jesse, now 15, joined the family in 1993, and Joshua, now 13, came along in 1995. Janet and the boys moved back to Logansport in 2000 while Bill was stationed in Korea. They divorced in 2001 and Janet moved with the boys to Mississippi. Janet moved her family to Kokomo in 2003 because her sister lived here and was helping with the boys.
Janet’s first job was as a summer staffer at Camp Mack, from 1988 to 1990. She has since worked many jobs. She has been a waitress, sales clerk, door-to-door vacuum salesperson, lunch lady, factory worker, CNA, pizza deliverer, bookstore clerk, gas station attendant, maid, and floral designer. Janet is now applying for work in area schools as a teaching assistant.
Janet has served in the Logansport CoB as Youth Group President, Camp Mack Counselor, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Advisor, Camp Mack Representative, and Stewardship Committee Member. Joyce Fruth, Lindsay Floyd, and God all had a hand in inviting Janet to visit the Kokomo CoB. She attends regularly, but has not yet transferred her membership. Janet intends to do so soon.
Janet’s hobbies include arts and crafts of all kinds. She loves the movies, traveling, reading, and spending time with her boys.
Jacob loves spending time up at Camp Mack. He is a middle school National Honor Society member. He enjoys reading, computers, and video games.
Jesse is the cook in the family. He has been through two culinary arts programs and is in the culinary arts course at Kokomo High School. He also works for his grandparents at Deano’s Pizza in Walton. He is an avid gamer and enjoys spending time at camp.
Josh loves to play chess. He earned 2nd place in the Indiana State Chess Championship in 2007. Josh plays center for the Bon Air Middle School football team. He also enjoys movies and spending time at Camp Mack.
Janet appreciates the KCoB family and she is happy to be here.
