CONGREGATIONAL  BUSINESS  MEETING

CHURCH  OF  THE BRETHREN,  KOKOMO                                         November 14, 2004

           

Moderator, David Donaldson opened the meeting at 12:50 p.m. by reading Galatians

3: 1-5.  He then read an excerpt from Come Thirsty by Max Lucado called "Hope for Tuckered Town" for devotions.  "The task ahead of you is never as great as the power behind you," was the theme of the reading.  This was followed by prayer.  There were approximately 39 members in attendance.

Dave Cox read a report from Steve Steiner about the Junior and Senior High Youth.

The floor was opened up for questions on the above reports.  There were no questions.  A motion was made by Carrie Bush to accept these reports.  Richard Hooker seconded the motion. The motion passed.

 

Church Board Chairman, Dave Cox, requested that the Building Committee be recognized and disbanded.  He listed the members of the building and decorating committees: Ed Stutzman, chairman, Craig Bush, Carroll Corwin, Renee Cunningham, Richard Hooker, Darrin Martin, building committee and Jeanne Campbell, Renee Cunningham, Horst Mayer, and Denise Savage of Savage Design on the decorating committee.  The committees were put together in the spring of 2003 and the sanctuary was dedicated in April, 2004.  Ed Stutzman spoke of the steadfastness of the committee and how so much of the work was done in house.  Approximately $132,000 of the $134,500 income was spent.  The balance will go back to the Stewards committee to go into the capital building funds.  The motion to disband is a supported motion from the board.  The motion passed.

Questions were called for following each report.  Written reports are on file.  Richard Hooker made a motion to accept the reports, Renee Cunningham seconded the motion.  The motion was passed.

 

Jeanne Campbell presented the slate of officers from the Nominating and Personnel Committee.  There were no nominations from the floor and there were no questions.  The slate is brought as a supported motion from the board.  The slate was accepted as presented by a show of hands.

Carroll Corwin gave a report on Stewardship Enlistment.  He explained that the estimated income for 2005 appears to be around $145,000, this would include pledges, estimated loose offering and non-pledge envelopes.  Questions were called for and these were discussed.

Steward Chair, Dick Fife presented the proposed budget for 2005.  The budget was distributed and discussed.  The budget total is $147,549.  It was noted that the salaries of the secretaries and custodian were not increased.  Greg Cunningham made a motion to show a 2.5% increase in salaries of secretaries and custodian.  Joe Denniston seconded the motion.  A vote was taken and the motion was approved.  This will add about $800 to the budget.  There was more discussion about the budget.  A vote was taken and the proposed budget was approved.

Dave Cox then explained that Don Ritchey will be leaving.  Nurture has arranged for pulpit fill for the next two Sundays.  Exec committee will meet after the business meeting to discuss this.  Don explained he may come back if he feels better, but he will be out until at least December.

Dave Cox was thanked for chairing the Board for the past three years.  Dave Donaldson closed the meeting at 2:30 p.m. with a circle of hands and a prayer for Don and the church.
