CHURCH  BOARD  CHAIR  REPORT

to the

CONGREGATIONAL  BUSINESS  MEETING

November 12, 2006

Two thousand six has been an exciting year for the Kokomo Church.  On January 20, we called Pastor Mark Stahl to the Pastorate and he started February 6, with his first Sunday in the Pulpit being February 19.  He hit the ground running with his participation in the Renewal Service at the end of February.  Pastor Mark traveled between Nappanee and Kokomo until the sale of their home, in Nappanee, in June.  The plea for assistance with the move went out and on July 23, after lunch at the church, 20 movers from the church family traveled to Nappanee to load a large U-Haul truck and a 22’ gooseneck trailer.  In a little over two hours the truck and trailer were loaded.  On Tuesday morning, July 25, 13 people arrived at 8:00 a.m. to unload the truck and trailer.  Within two hours, everything was unloaded and the bedrooms were setup.

There were no new members received into the church, since our Business meeting last November.  We have lost one member to death.  This brings our present membership to 163.  Average worship attendance to date is 89, same as last year.  There were two births in the church family this year.

The Church Board was reorganized in December 2005 for the 2006 year.  Joe Denniston was elected Vice Chairman.  The Nurture Commission was chaired by Carrie Bush with Janita Beall, Joe Denniston, Judy Denniston, Donna Hill and Alan Lawson.  The Witness Commission was chaired by Jim Wann with Mike Dzierla, John Fruth, Joyce Fruth, Glenda Wann and Harry Wray.  The Steward Commission was chaired by Craig Bush with Colleen Clark, Norm Cory, Renee Cunningham, Sandy Sarber and Tim Swisher.  Monthly board meetings are the first Tuesday of each month.  Congregation members are always welcome.  Dick Fife is Treasurer and Barbara Corwin is our Clerk.  Greg Cunningham is our Deacon Chairman.  I would like to thank all of the 2006 board members, Pastor Mark and Pastor Martha for their hard work and dedication to the church.  I would also like to extend special thanks to Janita Beall (three years), Mike Dzierla and Glenda Wann (each six years) of dedicated service to the board.

Karl Stone continued his MIT.  Through May 2006, Karl preached one Sunday per month, was Worship Leader the other Sundays each month and led choir.  This has been exciting time for our church, as we help Karl in his pursuit of his Pastoral Education.

Our church hosted the April 2nd Sectional Lenten Sectional Service.

A workshop was held in April.  Randy Yoder led our “Vision 2006 and Beyond” workshop.  We explored who “our neighbors are” and looked at goals for the year.  We also developed a Purposed Statement and a new Mission and Vision Statement.  Those statements are displayed each Sunday morning on the Announcement Screen.  Attendance was approximately 25 persons.

My second year as board chairman has been really exciting with a new Pastor starting.  We have accomplished much but there is plenty more to do.  Two thousand seven will have many challenges and rewards in store for us.  Remember to pray for our Pastor, our Church, its leaders and members with unceasing commitment.

Respectfully submitted, Carroll Corwin, Church Board Chairman
